Tools for the first responder of the future The 2nd International INGENIOUS workshop successful

The INGENIOUS 2nd International Workshop on “Tools for the First Responder of the Future” and the 2nd Full Scale eXercise (2nd FSX) took place in Spain in November 2022. The aim was to present the INGENIOUS final solutions and strengthen the ongoing dialogues and exchange of know-how and best practices for the development of innovative technologies with multiple benefits for First Responders. The events brought together a large participation of industry experts and First Responder Agencies, both internal and external to the INGENIOUS consortium. The ITC Faculty at the University of Twente is part of the INGENIOUS consortium.

The hybrid Workshop was a great opportunity for the INGENIOUS consortium to present the final prototype of the INGENIOUS Next Generation Integrated Toolkit (NGIT) for Collaborative Response. The technical partners focused on presenting each of the 18 in total advanced technologies that compose the INGENIOUS NGIT. Presentations were mainly focused on the final functionalities and benefits for the First Responders. Videos documenting the results achieved during the project’s Integration, Testing and Field Validation activities were also presented. The INGENIOUS End Users also actively participated in the Workshop, sharing their perspectives, experience and impressions from using the advanced prototypes of the INGENIOUS tools and components in the testing field.

Insights

Interesting insights from the DRS-02 Cluster projects ResponDrone, CURSOR, FASTER, ASSISTANCE and INGENIOUS were offered during the second part of the Workshop. The 5 projects started their activities in the same period and the development stage of their technologies is at a similar level. After the presentation of the projects’ results, the specialised in their field representatives of the projects engaged in an open dialogue about the methods of integration and validation of their technologies, contributing to the exchange of constructive knowledge and expertise.

The 2nd Full Scale eXercise (FSX) demonstrated for the first time to the wide public the 3rd and final Prototypes of the INGENIOUS NGIT and the successful integration among the various tools and components of the Toolkit. The technology providers and the practitioners of the project worked closely together to test and evaluate the effectiveness of the INGENIOUS final solution in real conditions for the last time. The scenario simulated an emergency response during a dangerous attack in a highway tunnel. Significant feedback was received and the efficiency of the INGENIOUS innovations was assessed. Following the successful completion of the FSX, the INGENIOUS technologies were available to the interested stakeholders in a tabletop demonstration. The technical partners responsible for their development provided clarification and bilateral demonstration of all the advanced features and benefits of the technologies.
