Additional costs

  • The cost of the residence permit is set by the Dutch Government and is subject to periodic increases. ITC applies on your behalf for the residence permit. Therefore, you are invoiced for this amount in advance.

  • Living allowance

The minimum living allowance, the amount you will require for accommodation and living,  is stated in the above table. The Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) requires that we guarantee that you have adequate funding to cover accommodation and living costs on your behalf. You must, therefore, pay the living allowance for the first academic year upfront. The living allowance for the second academic year (and beyond) must be indicated through a statement form provided by the IND and can be found here. Read detailed information on the page IND webpages Study.

When the living allowance is paid in advance, you receive a monthly refund upon arrival. This refund can be used for accomodation costs, food and out-of-pocket expenses. It is paid out every month or per course module, depending on the type of course you have registered for.

    Cost of Living

The following budget is meant to indicate the budget required annually when studying at the Faculty ITC of the University of Twente. Please note that tuition fees are not included in this budget.

    Budget

The total cost of living is around € 15,000 per year, excluding tuition fees. This information is meant as an indication of your average annual budget. Costs are subject to change: typographical errors may occur. The following costs are included in this budget:

    • Housing: € 7,500
    • Books & supplies: € 500
    • Bank account: € 50
    • Food and drinks: € 3,500
    • Transportation: € 1,000
    • Other (clothing etc.): €1,100
    • Bicycle: € 250
    • Insurance (optional for EU/EEA students*): € 650
    • Entry visa/residence permit (Non-EU/EEA students only): € 240
    • Some programmes require extra study material or specific software**

    * INSURANCE COSTS

Insurance costs for EU/EEA students depend on the policies of insurance companies in your home country. EU/EEA students can opt for additional insurance of € 10 - € 25 per month. This insurance covers costs of liability, household contents and luggage, legal aid, and extra costs.

    ** EXTRA STUDY EXPENSES

    Research support activities

Research support activities, such as fieldwork and site visits related to Master's research, can be a part of your academic programme. Research support activities can take place in the Netherlands or abroad. Restrictions might exist depending on personal scholarship conditions.

The costs of travel, accommodation and costs that are directly research-related can, depending on the research support activities, be paid directly by the faculty or reimbursed to a maximum amount. Daily subsistence costs during research support activities are at the student’s own expense. Continued residence at the ITC International Hotel must, if applicable, be maintained during the research support activities.

    Internships

The faculty ITC does not provide financial support for internships. The internship coordinator facilitates the set-up of an internship and the contractual agreements. Expense reimbursements or any salaries offered by the internship host are based on personal agreements between the student and the internship host.

Depending on scholarship conditions and restrictions offered by the residence permit, the countries where internships can be done, and the financial benefits that can be received will vary.

    Notebook

Via the Notebook Service Centre, you can purchase high-quality notebooks. The notebook is specially selected to accommodate applications necessary for ITC students. If you opt for a notebook, you will be sent an offer by e-mail before the start of the academic year. We offer you a notebook payment instalment plan at no extra costs.

  • When studying in the Netherlands, you must legally hold full medical insurance. The short-stay visa to travel to the Netherlands will not be issued unless insurance coverage can be shown to the embassy. ITC arranges a comprehensive insurance cover in advance of arrival at the rates shown above.

European Union citizens holding their own medical insurance must be able to provide evidence of comparable insurance. If provided and approved by ITC, you are exempt from purchasing insurance through ITC.

Payment conditions

The tuition fee, living allowance and additional costs for the first academic are to be fully paid in advance. The tuition fee for the second academic year can be paid in two instalments (1 June and 1 January). Failure to pay the fee instalment by the stated deadline will be considered grounds for deregistration of the programme.
The living allowance for the second academic year (and beyond) must be indicated through a statement form provided by the IND and can be found here. Read detailed information on the page IND webpages Study.

Extension of study

If the individual study period has to be extended, additional payments must be made before the extension period begins.
