Natural Resources (NRS)

The Department’s mission is the sustainable management and meeting of societal needs from the green cover (biosphere) by applying and developing geo-information, earth observation and spatio-temporal analytical tools.

The Department uses earth observation data and spatial information in combination with systems modeling, geo-information science (GIS) and remote sensing for the assessment, monitoring, planning and management of natural resources, for their sustainable use, development and restoration under global change. Degree courses

The NRS department has a wealth of research and practical experience in the application of GIS and earth observation in the specialized fields of forestry, agriculture and ecology as well as for natural resources and environmental management in a broader sense. Our courses in the natural resources and environment domain facilitate a multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving for development purposes.

Research theme

Research is carried out by a group led by one of ITC's professors. Each group typically comprises several expert staff members and a number of graduate students.

Academic output

The scientific staff and PhD students publish their research results in scientific literature.
