The Executive Board of the University of Twente is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr M.N. (Mila) Koeva as the new Research Portfolio Manager for the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC). Effective from 1 November 2024, Mila will succeed Karin Pfeffer, who has served in this role for several years. Dr Koeva's appointment is for two days per week and will span a period of four years.
In addition to Dr Koeva’s appointment, the Executive Board has extended Prof Dr Victor Jetten and Prof Dr Menno-Jan Kraak until 1 October 2024 as Portfolio Managers for Education and Capacity Development, respectively.
Mila Koeva has been with the University of Twente since 2014 and is an Associate Professor specializing in "3D City Digital Twins Based on Geospatial Technologies for Improved Land Management and Urban Planning." Her expertise encompasses geospatial and remote sensing data processing and fusion, utilizing innovative methods and enhancing user engagement. Dr Koeva is actively involved in 3D modelling and the development of Digital Twins to support resource management and decision-making for cadastral and urban planning applications. Currently, she leads the Digital Twin Geohub at UT and participates in several European projects.
Freek van der Meer, Dean of the ITC Faculty, expressed his enthusiasm for Mila Koeva's appointment: “Mila brings a wealth of expertise and innovative thinking to our faculty. She will significantly enhance our research capabilities and foster stronger collaborations within and beyond our faculty. We welcome her to the faculty board and look forward to her contributions.”
Mila Koeva shared her excitement about her new role: “It is an honour to be appointed as the Research Portfolio Manager. I look forward to working with my colleagues both within and outside the faculty to strengthen our research endeavours and contribute to the advancement of geospatial sciences.”
The ITC Faculty Board comprises a dean and portfolio managers responsible for education, research, capacity development, and operational management. Additionally, a student serves in an advisory role as a student assessor. The Faculty Board oversees the faculty's activities in teaching, education, and scientific research, contributing to the overall management of the University.
