"The provision and application of relevant geo-information
for the sustainable use and conservation of the biosphere of the Earth. "

NRS uses earth observation data and spatial information for the assessment, monitoring, planning and management of land resources, for their sustainable use, development and restoration.
NRS is committed to a constant development of new and innovative designs and methods in Remote Sensing and GIS for solving applied problems, with focus on:

- Innovative use of Remote Sensing (e.g. radar, hyperspectral and high spatial resolution imagery);
- Innovative algorithms for mapping and monitoring land cover;
- Modelling the physical environment and human interactions;
- Decision support; Tools for land use planning and participative GIS.

Our department comprises of three knowledge nodes:

- Forestry
- Agriculture
- Environment
