If your aim is to contribute to social welfare using advanced geospatial technology, pursuing a Master’s degree at ITC is an important step toward achieving your goal.
Hello, I am Pratistha from Nepal. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation, with a specialization in Disaster Resilience, at the University of Twente, the Netherlands.
My Journey and Background
I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science at Kathmandu University, Nepal. After graduating, I worked on a flood risk management project in Nepal. Working on this project taught me two important things. First, disasters can be prevented. With proper planning and a proactive approach, hazards can be stopped from turning into disasters. Second, such approaches must be evidence-based, with geospatial technology playing a key role. Through this work, I also witnessed firsthand the technical gaps that limit effective disaster management in Nepal. These experiences inspired my interest in geospatial science, particularly in applying geospatial tools to ensure evidence-based disaster risk management approaches in Nepal and beyond.
Pursuing My Goals with ITC Excellence Scholarship Support
To further develop my knowledge and skills in this field, I decided to pursue a Master’s degree. The Master’s program in Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation, with a specialization in Disaster Resilience, aligned perfectly with my goals. Its intensive curriculum, technical focus, and excellent faculty matched my aspirations, and I knew this was exactly what I wanted to pursue.
Studying here and working toward my goals would not have been possible without the generous support of the ITC Excellence Scholarship. This support helped me to fully focus on my studies, strengthen my technical skills, and dedicate time to research without financial concerns. I am truly grateful for the ITC Excellence Scholarship and remain committed to making the most of this opportunity.
My Journey at ITC
Although it has only been a few months since I joined ITC, I have already learned a lot and discovered valuable resources. I have gained many technical skills relevant to risk management, with more to learn in the future. The courses are intensive and highly relevant to the global market, and I admire how the faculty not only teach but also encourage students to learn independently, so we can continue learning even after graduation.
A Tip for Future Students
If your aim is to contribute to social welfare using advanced geospatial technology, pursuing a Master’s degree at ITC is an important step toward achieving your goal. If this aligns with your aspirations, I strongly encourage you to submit your application and begin your journey :)
