''In the future, I hope to combine my background in 3D city modelling and remote sensing with the knowledge and skills I gain at ITC to contribute to more efficient, modern, and citizen-oriented land administration in Türkiye''.
Hello, my name is Alperen and I am from Türkiye. I am currently studying the Master’s in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation with a specialization in Urban and Land Futures at the Faculty of ITC, University of Twente. I am originally from Fethiye, but I now live in Enschede while pursuing my studies.
I graduated from Hacettepe University in Ankara with a degree in Geomatics Engineering in 2020. In my bachelor’s thesis, I worked on deformation detection using radar satellites, and this work was later published as an article in the ISPRS journal. This experience sparked my interest in applying earth observation and advanced geospatial methods to real-world problems.
After graduation, I worked for four years in the 3D city modelling and digital twins sector. During this time, I was involved in the production of 3D city models for several cities in Europe and Türkiye. Working closely with urban data and digital twins made me realize how important well-structured spatial information is for planning, land administration, and decision-making in cities. This motivated me to continue my education in a more research-oriented and international environment.
I am studying at ITC thanks to the YLSY scholarship programme of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Education. This is one of Türkiye’s most important long-term investment programmes in human capacity: since the early years of the Republic, students have been sent abroad to become highly qualified professionals and return to serve in key public institutions. As part of this programme, after graduating from ITC I will work at the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre. The focus of my specialization on urban futures and land administration aligns very well with this future role.
My experience at ITC so far has been very positive. The programme is intensive but very well designed, with a strong balance between theory and hands-on applications in projects, group work and real-world case studies. Being taught by experts who are actively involved in international research and development projects is very inspiring and helps connect classroom content to current global challenges. The multicultural environment at ITC allows me to learn from classmates with diverse professional and cultural backgrounds, which broadens my perspective on urban and land issues. At the same time, the staff are approachable and supportive, and the facilities and student support services make it easier to adapt both academically and personally to life in the Netherlands.
In the future, I hope to combine my background in 3D city modelling and remote sensing with the knowledge and skills I gain at ITC to contribute to more efficient, modern, and citizen-oriented land administration in Türkiye.
