A Textbook is a published book meant to introduce a subject for classroom teaching or self-study. It can treat a topic at any level, but is mainly intended as the first contact with the subject.
These are not peer-reviewed as such but are typically extensively edited and sent by the publisher to people who might use the text in teaching, to see if they find the book accurate and useful.
