Library services for alumni

Become a high-skilled geospatial professional

Introduction

Since you have been studying at ITC we suppose you know the ITC library services to scientific information very well.

During your study at ITC, we tried to create an environment for you, in which you were able to select, acquire and present the information necessary for your study.
Besides that, we tried to teach you the necessary skills to do so.

Since you are back in your own country you can no longer profit from the environment of the ITC library services and the digital university library. Maybe there are very good facilities in your neighbourhood and you do not need the search for and access to scientific information via the ITC and University of Twente facilities t anymore.

We found out that many alumni like to keep in touch with the ITC library services for their information needs. That is why we made a special section on our homepage for you.

Services

We hope you understand we cannot give you the same support and services as during your stay at ITC but we will try to explain the different services you can use from the ITC homepage and digital university library and which services we still can offer.

First of all our catalog, FindUT is accessible to you through the internet. The catalog contains bibliographic data on books, journal titles, conference proceedings, maps, audio visual materials, web sites, MSc theses, PhD theses and all other output from ITC (as well as from the University of Twente) staff members and students. For many sources, only bibliographic data is available, but links to full text are provided and sources are often Open Access available.

Furthermore, you can use the Databases A-Z list to access sources to find scientific information. Some databases will allow you to use their search engine and will give you access to part of their collection (Open Access articles). However, be aware that some databases are only accessible to staff and students of ITC

The University of Twente Research Information contains all scientific output from staff including PhD students. Via the website a selection can be made specifically for the ITC. University of Twente MSc theses can be accesses via University of Twente student theses. Also, via this application a selection can be made specifically for theses produced by ITC MSc students.

Direct access to research output and theses of ITC is available via Academic Output Most MSc theses have been available as full text since 2002; the same goes for PhD theses.

You cannot borrow books from the University of Twente and ITC library collections but in some cases we will send photocopies of parts of books or journal articles. We are not allowed to send you complete e-books, but if possible we will inform you of Open Access alternatives.

Free and Open Access resources

In our research repository, you will find a lot of Open Access sources. More and more research is published Open Access these days, so searching in scientific databases, or on publisher's websites will give you lot's of free access to research.

You may be familiar with the reference manager Zotero which is free for everyone. Now also EndNote has a limited free online edition you may want to try.
