YouthMappers Mapping Event

Natural hazards, poverty, climate change, inequality, environmental degradation, war: there are so many challenges that sometimes we feel just powerless. What can we do to help? Well, we can start by doing something we are (very) good at in ITC: building maps!

SAB and the Department of Geo-information Processing are organising an event for ITC students and staff that includes a seminar on mapping followed by a hands-on practical session. The event is organised with YouthMappers, an international university consortium on Mapping for Resilience. It is scheduled for 12th December 2018 from 14:00 to 18:00h in ITC Auditorium

Outline of the mapping event

  • 14:00 - 14:30h - Presentation by Caroline Gevaert on Making and using ‘open maps’ in Dar es Salaam
  • 14:30 - 15:00h - Presentation by Bernard Bronmans (Red Cross) on Building detection in satellite images.
  • 15:00 - 18:00h - Mapathon (hands-on practical session for mapping a missing area on the globe).

The event is free for students (SAB members only) and staff. We request you to fill out the registration form if you are willing to help the community at large to fight the global challenges.
