Internship
In the second year of your Master’s in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, you can apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired during your studies by doing an internship at a national organisation for land and environmental governance, international alliance for land and tenure security such as Global Land Tool Network (GLTN), cadastre, land registry and mapping agency, non-governmental organisation, or a real estate agency in the Netherlands or abroad. ITC has a broad network of organisations where you can do your internship project.
Examples of internships that students have done are:
- "The use of Spatial Development Framework (SDF) methods in the land use process in Rwanda" at UN Habitat, Rwanda.
- "Land use planning preparation and registration of land rights” at the National Land Use Planning Commission in Tanzania
- “Customary land right documentation in Ghana” COLANDEF, Ghana
Master's thesis
You will complete your Master’s by writing your Master’s thesis. Your research will be part of the research group People, Land, and Urban Systems (PLUS) and you will write your thesis under the supervision of one of the professors in that research group. You can, for example, model the cadastre of Kenya for a digital representation and management of land records so that citizens have a better access to their land information. Or you might develop a tool for land rights mapping that combines field data and information from national databases.
