Geo-information Science and Earth Observation Double degree Master's with K. N. Toosi University of Technology, Tehran, Iran

The Master's programme in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation offered through the partnership between KNTU and ITC is a graduate course suitable for the candidates who have BSc in geoscience related fields of study such as surveying engineering, civil engineering, geography, forestry engineering, agricultural engineering and geology and have the desire to expand their academic and personal horizon to become citizens of the world.

Career perspective

Upon the completion of the course, the graduates will have a wide range of abilities which are mainly in the areas of production and interpretation of maps and other spatial information such as remote sensing data, terrain mapping, global positioning (GPS) and other digital new techniques including design, creation and development of spatial databases for various applications such as urban and regional planning, cadaster, urban management and public services (water, electricity, gas, telecommunications, etc.). Based on these abilities the graduates of the joint program can be employed in the mapping/geographical organizations, space related companies, geological surveys, energy sectors, oil and gas companies forest and agricultural organizations, mining and civil engineering centers and urban development companies.

Course content

The joint programme is part of the regular academic system in KNTU and it is divided into four blocks. Two blocks, the first year, are held within two separate terms at the faculty of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering, KNTU in Iran. These two blocks last for 9 months starting from September and ending in next year’s May. There are courses taught on subjects like earth observation, GIS, web services, photogrammetry, cartographic visualization, image analysis. The first year provides ample opportunity to select courses of personal interest to better prepare graduates for their academic or professional career. Upon completion of the first year, the faculty of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation at the University of Twente, in the Netherlands, will host the students for block 3 (September – February) during which the individual study plan consisting of elective courses and MSc research is continued. The MSc research is finalized in block 4 after return to KNTU.
