About 150 new students of 39 nationalities will arrive in Enschede this week for the start of their education at ITC, University of Twente. A varied introduction programme has been set up, intended to give the students a head start in their education at our university.

Two-third of the students are men, with the youngest student at the age of 20 and the oldest 44. Students come from all across the world, with larger groups from Ethiopia (24 students), China (19 students) and Kenya (15 students). The students will attend a variety of educational programmes, the majority takes part in a two year MSc-programme. The Geoinformatics course has the most newcomers, almost 40, followed by Urban Planning and Management (25 new students) and Natural Resources Management (22).

During the coming two weeks, a varied programme will introduce the students to study and life in the Netherlands. The programme includes for instance learning how to ride a bike, an introduction to the Twente region with an excursion, and practical sessions on how the Dutch health care and law systems work.

Opening Academic Programme

The official start of the academic year of ITC is on 1 October. The Opening of the Academic Programme 2015-2016 will be held at the Muziekcentrum in the city centre of Enschede. Dean Tom Veldkamp will welcome the new students to the faculty and the Schermerhorn Lecture will be given by Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, Member of Parliament in Kenya and ITC alumnus.
