The department of Earth Observation Science (EOS) deals with earth observation technology and science for problem-solving. Problem solving means primarily identification of solutions for large-volume producers of geo-information, identification of solutions for (ITC) application domains, provisions for spatial data infrastructure, in short to obtain the best possible solutions given the current state of knowledge. To do so the department:

  1. holds the expertise in various earth observation domains, such as:
    1. data collection using modern remote sensing techniques based on passive and active sensors
    2. advanced analysis techniques based upon advances in image analysis and spatio-temporal mathematical and statistical methods;
  2. has a focused scientific research programme to expand that knowledge, to link knowledge to the problem-orientation in ITC's core application domains and to build and expand a national and international knowledge network;
  3. foresees in a multi-level education program, tailored to the needs of ITC's target organizations and ITC's role in a worldwide distance education network;
  4. maintains close contacts with national and international research groups working in this field in order to stay up to date with developments elsewhere and to possibly offer services in collaboration with those groups.
