One of the objectives of the Xinjiang
project was to develop a GIS based monitoring system for use
by the various responsible ministries and agencies in China. The
Coal Fire Monitoring Information System (CFMIS) was our first
experience in designing a monitoring system of this nature. It
is based on the ILWIS
GIS software package developed by ITC.
CFMIS works menu based. The users choose options with a menu
click and work their way through:
- maps,
- attribute tables,
- images and
- other relevant information.
The following screen captures show some of the
features of the CFMIS designed in the project:
Experience gained during the development of CFMIS helped in
designing other GIS packages such as CoalMan,
which provided more functionalities such as generating 2.5D maps,
hazard and risk maps etc.
