BackgroundLand privatization is often seen as a main condition for economic development in market economies. International funding agencies have supported land privatization and registration programs in the Central Asian region as well as elsewhere throughout the world. Different privatization policies have been implemented and land registration and cadastral projects have been executed. Land markets are becoming more active and create new challenges for registration and cadastre institutions. Many experiences –institutional, organizational, legal, social and technological- have been gained in 16 years of land administration activities in the Central Asian region. Now, interesting lessons can be learnt. Coinciding with the end of the present land registration TACIS phase III project in Uzbekistan, an international workshop will be organized where experiences and latest developments will be presented and discussed.
