2013-02-25 New TIR text book in print
The text book "Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing: Sensors, Method, Applications", by C. Kuenzer und S. Dech (Eds.) has been submitted to Springer and is expected to be published around June of 2013. The book contains several chapters and contributions authored by SIG-TRS members and should be interesting to TIR practitioners in the spectral as well as temperature domain. More information and pre-registration can be found on the Springer website.
2013-02-11 Landsat8 launched
The Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) was successfully launched off Vandenberg Airforce Base in California. The satellite will later be renamed LANDSAT8 and contains the Operational Land Imager (OLI) and the Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) instruments. TIRS is a 2-band thermal sensor which continues the important Landsat data acquisitions with medium spatial resolution (100m). More information can be found on the NASA's LDCM website or the USGS landsat website.
