Project summary

This ADB Technical Assistance project, implemented by ITC, will enhance the capabilities of the Vietnamese government to carry out risk and vulnerability assessments and mainstream prevention and preparedness activities into the development process. The project includes training activities and the implementation of a pilot project in Yen Bai province. Project activities are:
1. development of an appropriate methodology for hazard risk assessment in Vietnam;
2. conducting training needs assessment;
3. developing training courses and manuals;
4. training of selected staff in disaster reduction using GIS and RS;
5. developing a knowledge network and platform for exchanghe of information to facilitate decision-making by national and local authorities;
6. implementing a pilot project to demonstrate application of GIS and RS;
7. developing a web-based disaster risk training package designed and made operational for dissemination to disaster management organizations in Vietnam.
The project runs from September1, 2009 to March 2011. Total project budget is US$ 450,000.
