ENSPADS output and spin-offs

ENSPADS will develop the following courses in the year 2004:

Two technical courses on:

  • Support systems for collaborative spatial decision-making
  • Multi-criteria analysis for spatial planning

Two executive courses on:

  • Structuring and evaluating spatial planning and decision problems.
  • Practice of collaborative SPDSS

These courses will be tested in 2005 in Malaysia and the Philippines.

In order to develop these courses the ENSPADS members are developing databases in an internet community environment with literature, exercises and case studies.

Intended spin-offs

  • Enhance further expertise development of participating partners.
  • Joint projects in education, research and consulting.

Unforeseen spin-offs achieved in the first three quarters are:

  • A survey amongst all physical planners of Malaysia regarding their familiarity and demand for SPDSS.
  • A conference on spatial planning and decision support systems to be held at the International Islamic University Malaysia (http://www.iiu.edu.my/advert/spdss/).
  • An executive course in the Philippines for newly elected local government officials in the curriculum of the Local Government Academy of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
