Resume of Dr. U.D. (Ulanbek) Turdukulov

Background

Ulanbek Turdukulov joined the GIP department in 2008. He obtained a university diploma degree (1995) in geography with specialization in cartography from St-Petersburg State University, Russia, and MSc degree (2003) in geo-information science with specialization in Water Resource Management from ITC, the Netherlands. He has PhD degree from Utrecht University (2007). Prior to his study at ITC, he worked as a head of cartographic laboratory at Kyrgyz State University, faculty of geography and ecology (1998 to 2001).

His involvement in education:

Diploma in GIS Course involvement: Spatial database and Integrated project;
Professional Master and MSc involvement: SDI engineering, IFA and MSc research supervision.

Activities in research

His research at GIP department focuses on geovisualization methodology and tools to explore large time-series of remote sensing data. Due to the continuous sensor improvements, the amount of remote sensing data is constantly growing. On the other hand, the users are confronted with the need to explore these large spatio-temporal datasets in order to gain insights into the dynamics of geo-phenomena. One way of supporting this exploratory process is by developing visualization methods.

The current visualizations are difficult to use for exploration of time-series of satellite data. His research activities aim at developing methodology and tools for providing visual support for such exploratory process.
