Dr. Tiejun Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Natural Resources at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation of the University of Twente. He obtained an MSc degree in Geo-information Science and Nature Resource Management from ITC in 2003. He completed his doctorate in Spatial Ecology under the supervision of Prof. Andrew Skidmore and Prof. Herbert Prins at ITC & Wageningen University in the Netherlands in 2009. Before he joined ITC he worked for World Wildlife Fund (WWF) where he served as project manager for giant panda conservation program in the Qinling Mountains and a full time consultant to the Species Program in China. He worked for 10 years with Foping Nature Reserve. In 2000 he moved to China's State Forestry Administration, where he worked as a government officer in the Department of Wildlife Conservation. His research focuses on the spatial aspects of ecology and in particular on endangered species modelling in data poor regions with special attention to forest biomes, while his recent research includes: (1) Conservation biology of endangered species such as giant panda and golden takin, (2) spatial epidemiology of avian influenza virus, (3) spatial ecology of migratory birds, (4) forest landscape ecology, (5) remote sensing of forage quantity and quality, and (6) land surface phenology and remote sensing.
