Background
Raymond Nijmeijer is lecturer in the Department of Natural Resources at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente in the Netherlands. He has an M.Sc. degree in Physical Geography from Utrecht University (NL) with concentrations in GIS and Remote Sensing. In his thesis research for the Tropenbos Foundation he focused on the spatial and temporal variability of microclimatological and hydrological ecosystem components within man-made gaps in tropical rainforest of Guyana. After graduation from University in 1998, he joined ITC and started his career as software documentalist for ILWIS. In this position he described the functionality of the software, wrote education and training materials such as user guide exercises and distance learning modules, collected/adapted case studies and examples and was responsible for the online help of ILWIS. Over the past few years he has taken several classes that have broadened his background and in 2003 he moved into a more technological-oriented direction. In the period 2003-2005 he worked as software developer in ITC's Remote Sensing & GIS Geo-Software Development Unit and mainly developed geo-software applications for research purposes. In 2006-2007 he worked in various positions and by mid 2007 he was appointed as lecturer in the Department of Natural Resources. Activities in educationCoursework (face to face) teaching in:
