Academic background

  • PhD student (Sandwich), Hydrology, Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente, the Netherlands. May 2007 - Present
  • PhD student, Ecology, Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Sep 2004 - Jun 2008
Thesis title: "Simulating the responses of crop development and growth to environmental factors and their applications in agricultural water and nitrogen management"
  • MSc, Meteorology, Nanjing Institute of Meteorology, P.R. China. Sep 2001 - Jul 2004
Thesis title: "Simulating the response of photosynthate partitioning during vegetative growth of winter wheat to environmental factors"
  • BSc, Agrometeorology, Shenyang Agricultural University, P.R. China. Sep 1997 - Jul 2001.

Research interests

  • Eco-physiologically based agroecosystem modeling phenology, transpiration, photosynthesis, growth, yield, and their relations with environmental factors.
  • H2O, CO2, and energy exchange modeling between terrestrial surface and atmosphere and their responses to the climate change.
  • Agroecosystem model applications in agricultural water and nitrogen management.
  • Assimilation of remote sensing data (surface soil moisture and/or LAI) into agroecosystem model with Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF).

Experience

Visiting Scientist: Sep 2006 - Mar 2007, simulating the effects of cover crop on the nitrate leaching in subsurface drainage with agroecosystem model, Agricultural System Research Unit (Fort Collins) & National Soil Tilth Laboratory (Ames), USDA-ARS, USA.
