Background
Ivana Ivánová graduated in 2000 at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava and became Engineer of Geodesy and Cartography. With a specialization in Geoinformatics, she started her doctoral studies at the Department of theoretical geodesy of Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. After part of her study at TU Delft (in 2003) under the guidance of prof. Aalders, she successfully defended her thesis on 'Data quality in spatial datasets'. Ivana obtained her PhD from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in 2006. From 2003 until 2007, she worked as lecturer at the same department. Ivana joined ITC in September, 2007 as lecturer at the department of Geo-Information Processing (GIP). Activities in educationBefore joining ITC, Ivana developed new subjects for the updated MSc curriculum of geoinformatics at the Slovak University of Technology. She taught subjects related to principles of geographic information systems (GIS), geoinformation management and spatial data quality. She developed an intensive integrated project focused on spatial data acquisition, processing and dissemination. At ITC she teaches subjects in the Geoinformatics course domain at all levels (MSc, Master, Diploma). She teaches subjects related to principles of (spatial and non-spatial) databases, principles of GIS, geoprocessing, spatial data quality, and development of web mapping applications. Ivana guides MSc, Master and Diploma students through their final thesis and project work. Activities in researchAlthough as a lecturer Ivana devotes all her time to teaching, she contributes to the research of the SDI-T research group. Ivana's interests are related to the subject of her PhD, which is spatial data quality. More specifically, Ivana tries to look at aspects of spatial data quality in context of Spatial Data Infrastructure. Information about the quality of spatial data are vital criteria for the selection of the 'right data' for the 'right purpose' (the fitness for use motto). This is not only true for selection by human beings, but also for selection of appropriate data by web services. Spatial datasets where spatial data quality plays a role are not always static datasets with 2D data. There are also 3D and temporal datasets and the quality of these is an interesting phenomenon for research. Activities in project servicesUntil now, Ivana's involvement in project services was mainly in the field of education. In days before she joined ITC, she developed and participated in more projects of continuous professional learning. She taught courses on geoinformatics and professional English language courses. At ITC she developed and develops distance education courses focusing on modern teaching and learning techniques. Ivana has great experience in standardization. Between 2004 and 2007, she represented the Slovak national standardization organization (SUTN) in the outreach group in CEN/TC 287 Geographic information. As an expert she worked as a reviewer of the adaptation of the EN ISO 19100 series of norms into a national legal framework. Currently, she works in line of the work of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and follows the work of the Working Group on Quality in OGC.
