Objectives and overview

UNU_ITC

The main objective of the ITC Disaster Information Analysis Group (DIAG) is to support capacity building of organizations in developing countries through assistance in the collection, management, analysis and dissemination of spatial information after major disaster events in developing countries.

Support to Gadjah Mada University in damage mapping after Yogyakarta Eathquake

ITC supported it´s counterpart University Gadjah Mada with the assessment of the damage to buildings in the Yogyakarta area after the earthquake of 6.2 Magnitude which occurred on 27 May 2007. ITC provided 25 GPS systems which were used by staff and students from UGM in the house-by-house survey, especially in the Bantul area. ITC also supported UGM financially so that overflights could be made and a series of Small Format Aerial Photographs could be taken of the Bantul area. ITC staff Norman Kerle also visited the earthquake affected area, and provided support to UGM staff Barandi Widartono. More information.

Production of base maps for earthquake affected areas in Pakistan

ITC has produced 49 maps at scale 1:50,000 of the complete Pakistan earthquake area to aid relief workers and agencies in the field. After registration, these maps are freely downloadable. More information.

Tsunami disaster information

Links to a number of websites with relevant image and map data products of the areas affected by the tsunami disaster. Furthermore some background information is presented about the causes and characteristics of the tsunami as a natural phenomenon. More information.
