Phases in graduate study
Phase 0
- Qualifier phase
- 0-6 months (strict end-date)
- Prepare full research proposal and plan
- Public defence
- Examination by steering committee chaired by senior supervisor (promotor-designate)
Phase 1
- 7-12 months (flexible end-date)
- If recommended by senior supervisor, registration in Netherlands university and/or graduate school
- Fulfil specified activities per training and supervision plan
- Prepare research progress report, compare progress to plan
- Performance and progress assessment by a steering committee
Phase 2
- 13-24 months (flexible end-date)
- Fulfil specified activities per training and supervision plan
- Prepare research progress report, compare progress to plan
- Performance and progress assessment by a steering committee
Phase 3
- Month 25 onward
- Complete research per plan
- Initiate the procedure for the award of PhD degree (promotion)
- Draft, finalize and submit PhD thesis
- Examination and oral defence (promotion)
