First Workshop Base Registers, 30 November – 2 December, Windhoek, Namibia

The UNU School for Land Administration Studies organizes in collaboration with Polytechnic of Namibia a new workshop on linking Public Registers to become the backbone the information system of the public sector.

The UNU School for Land Administration Studies organizes in collaboration with Polytechnic of Namibia a new workshop on linking Public Registers to become the backbone the information system of the public sector. This includes: Land register, topographic maps, Civil register and others such as Car register, Voter register, Business register, etc.

Being in these registers makes that rights and obligations are secured, such as rights to travel/ passport, rights to land, right to vote, etc.  Some registers contain land related data, others citizen and business related data.

Information technology creates possibilities to link the Registers to conform a consistent set which can be used in public sector procedures. This is referred to as the set of “Base Registers” and can improve service delivery to citizens and private sector.

When growing towards a set many legal, institutional, technical, political and ethical questions have to be answered. The Workshop will look into concepts of Base Registers and the related questions.

Target group: Senior level officials from Public Agencies that keep official Register data.

Participants will have to make a short presentation on the state of their Register.   

Interested persons can present an abstract and apply to meijere@itc.nl.

All costs will be covered. Priority for this workshop will be given to applicants from Southern African Countries.
