ITC together with the Georgian environmental NGO CENN have recently started a 2.5 year project in Georgia, targeted at building staff capacities at the Ministry of Environment in the field of disaster risk reduction and the use of geo-information tools. The project is funded through the Dutch MATRA program (MATRA stands for 'societal transformation').
For the project kick-off, ITC colleagues Cees van Westen and Sabine Maresch travelled to Tbilisi last May, where they were warmly welcomed by Georgian ITC alumni. Five alumni organized a get-together and offered the ITC colleagues an excellent meal and fine Georgian wines in a traditional Georgian restaurant. They shared their positive memories of ITC and stressed over and over again how happy they were that ITC staff was visiting their beautiful country. We had to pass many regards to our colleagues at home. The idea is that some of the ITC alumni could provide support in the case studies to be developed in the Matra project, so we hope to keep in close contact!
