Since 1949, the embassy compound of the Netherlands is located in the middle of the busy Pathumwan district. It forms a beautiful park and exceptional green oasis of trees, space and tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle of the densely populated Bangkok metropolis.

In 2005 the construction of a new chancellery was completed at the compound and renovations started at the ambassador’s residence. The beautiful villa was modernized, while maintaining its original architectural features. At the end of 2007 Mr. Pieter Marres, the ambassador took up residence again in the renovated villa.

On 15 January Mr. Pieter Marres invited the Netherlands Alumni for a new-year reception. It goes without saying that it was a great honour for the alumni to be one of the first groups to be welcomed at the renovated residence.

Some 70 Netherlands alumni were attending the reception hosted by the Ambassador and NAAT (Netherlands Alumni Association of Thailand). The ITC chapter under NAAT was well represented by 20 attendees, who had lively discussions and enjoyed the buffet dinner.
