ITC's Research programme
The ITC Research programme defines the scientific scope of knowledge development, which is underpinned by the scientific expertise of ITC and tailored to the international research agenda.
It addresses problems related to the management of space and resources and problems related to the provision of relevant, timely and reliable geospatial information through the execution of demand-driven research projects in its 14 research themes, each of which is led by an ITC professor supported by a group of expert staff members. Many of the research projects are carried out by registrants in the ITC Graduate programme studying for a PhD degree.
Research themes
The ITC Research Programme is formulated as a number of interlinked research themes.
- Biodiversity in fragmenting landscapes
- Carbon cycle and climate change
- Disaster management
- Earth systems science
- Food security and environmental sustainability
- Governance and integrated spatial assessment
- Informed multilevel governance of urban regions
- Land administration for informed governance
- Managing water scarcity
- Spatial data infrastructure technology
- Spatio-temporal data integration and visualisation
- Stochastic methods for image mining and data quality
- Sustainable urban-regional dynamics
- Utilisation of sensor developments for efficient topographic mapping
- Water cycle and climate
Graduate programme
Graduate students studying for a PhD degree at ITC are registered in its Graduate Programme.
Graduate study handbook
A guide for (prospective) registrants in the ITC Graduate programme.
Resources and facilities
The ITC Library is a specialised scientific library on Remote Sensing and GIS. ITC's database of Satellites and Sensors contains information on EO satellites and sensors.
Visiting researchers and post-docs
Scientists expert in geo-information science and/or earth observation are invited to carry out research at ITC as visiting researchers or post-doctoral research fellows.
Research opportunities
Suitable qualified candidates are invited to undertake research at ITC as a basis for preparing and submitting a PhD thesis.
Research output
Scientific articles and software products.
Research partnerships
ITC's research programme is carried out in collaboration with a range of partners in the Netherlands, Europe and other countries worldwide, which have a complementary expertise base.
