Good Administration of Land in Asia and the Pacific

Decision makers meeting

Land registers and cadastres are tools to facilitate governments in their policy to providing land tenure security, combatting poverty, encouraging the land and real estate market, pursueing land management, and levying land taxes.

The Worldbank promotes land administration for 'poverty reduction and economic growth' (WB research) and the UN puts forward 'pro poor land management' in which 'pro poor land administration' plays a substantial role (various reports 2004/2005).

The United Nations University requested the School for Land Administration Studies, established by ITC and the Dutch Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency, to organise a Decision Makers Meeting on Good Administration of Land, a meeting for high officials from various countries, who are responsible for the development of national policies regarding the land issue (land policy, land management and land administration). The aim of the meeting is to identify the opinion within your governments on how land policy should proceed in the first place, and how this would impact on the land administration activity. The countries we approach are mainly Asian.
