Invitation to 52°North-ILWIS information day

The 52°North-ILWIS information day is meant for ITC staff, PhD candidates and students who are interested in the use of GIS open source software and want to know how ILWIS is currently developing as open source software and how this is done within the 52°North initiative.

The core objective of ILWIS Open is to gradually provide a maintainable framework for researchers and software developers to implement up-to-date training components, scientific toolboxes and (web-) service implementations used in student projects, research and consulting projects. The development of this framework is done since 2007 in the context of 52°North.

52°North (http://52north.org/) is an international research and development initiative whose mission is to promote the conception, development and application of free open source geo-software for research, education, training and practical use. 52°North backs an open initiative, which is driven by leading research organizations and individuals in the international GIS field.

Program

The 52°North-ILWIS information day is free and does not need registration. You are welcome to join and walk out at any moment, so that you can participate whenever you like.
The information day starts with short introductions to 52°North, ILWIS as open source software and a demonstration of new functionalities in the coming ILWIS 3.5 Open. After the coffee break, ITC staff will present recent and future activities within various departments involving ILWIS and/or web applications. The morning concludes with a panel discussion in which we discuss ITC wishes for open source development. The afternoon is reserved for a hands-on tutorial, where you can experience the new ILWIS open source software yourself.
