Automatic classification of clouds

Dr. Irshad Ahmad Arshad is an Associate Professor of Statistics and Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at International Islamic University Islamabad, Pakistan. He did his graduation and MS degrees in Statistics from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of Essex, U.K. under the Commonwealth Award. He is the founder chairperson of the department of Statistics at the International Islamic University.

Dr. Arshad is visiting the Earth Observation Science Department of ITC under the staff mobility program of the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship scheme. He will give a talk on “Automatic Classification of Clouds”. He has developed a biplanar regression model of saturation for distinguishing between blue sky and clouds for the ground based photographs of the sky. To divide the cloud into types he used different properties (like brightness, shape, size, smoothness, etc,) of cloud.
