Achieving sustainable development is the major ambition which affects all aspects of management strategies. Sustainable development is the process of development based on coordination and harmonization of social, economic, and environmental components. Sustainable development is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Remote sensing and photogrammetry technologies undoubtedly could play a key role in providing appropriate and up-to-date spatial information in a timely manner to support more proactive decision making that encourages more effective sustainable development. SMPR 2011 is devoted to the development of international cooperation for the advancement of knowledge, research, development, education and training in the photogrammetric, remote sensing and spatial information sciences, their integration and applications, to contribute to the sustainable development.
